Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics

The range of services of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics comprises the complete diagnostic and therapeutic spectrum of treatments in the fields of gynecology, senology and obstetrics. A total of 2,600 surgical interventions are carried out per year by an extremely experienced medical team.

A special focus is on the treatment of gynecological tumor diseases, particularly of breast cancer. Owing to latest procedures and outstanding professional know-how, tumors can be cleared with breast-conserving operations for 80 per cent of the patients. The independent quarterly benchmarking of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia regularly highlights the quality of our breast cancer treatment in comparison to other facilities. If breast conservation is not possible, the department achieves very good reconstruction results via implantation or endogenous tissue. A peculiar indication of quality is the fact that not a single patient suffered from an implantation loss after breast reconstruction throughout the last 25 years.

Based on this expertise, the results of esthetic corrections such as breast augmentation or reduction as well as shape-improving operations on the breast and the abdominal wall are above average.

Besides its surgical know-how the department provides all means and methods for outpatient tumor therapy. These include the latest procedures and substances for antihormone therapy and chemotherapy via complex immunologic therapy elements with monoclonal antibodies. The system therapies are complemented by premium adjunctive therapies, which reduce side effects to a considerable degree.

Other frequent treatments in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics are interventions for urinary incontinence and genital sedimentation conditions. The high experience of our surgeons makes the application of gentle, minimal invasive techniques possible in a lot of cases.

The above average treatment spectrum is complemented by a warm-hearted and personal atmosphere. All 12 doctors and 55 nurses provide medical as well as emotional care. They support patients with advice, assistance and empathy. The inpatient accommodation facilities provide a range of rooms with one or two beds to comfy suites offering every amenity for a pleasant stay. Moreover, the patient lounge provides our patients with some additional amenities.

„Less is more; this is true for life in itself and for the treatment of illnesses. Less strain for the patients in treatment, but more targeted and individual treatment approaches improve the quality of life.“

Dr. Martin Schütte, Senior Physician of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics in the Marienhospital Altenessen
