About us

For many years, we have been treating patients with lipoedema at the Contilia Lipoedema Centre at St. Josef Hospital in Kupferdreh. At our centre, which was established specifically for this condition, our patients benefit from the high level of expertise and infrastructure required for this demanding and comprehensive treatment.

Our patients often come to us suffering from severe physical and emotional distress. During our special lipoedema consultation hours, our experienced team of experts is therefore on hand to offer advice and support and to recommend a treatment plan tailored to each individual patient.

The treatment focuses on liposuction. If skin tightening surgery is required after liposuction, you are also in good hands with us.

Patients who have a medical need for liposuction will receive a certificate from us to submit to their health insurance company so that it can be determined whether they will cover the costs of the treatment. We look forward to accompanying you on your journey to a new, confident and pain-free body image.

Dr Marc André Quambusch, Chief Physician | Specialist in Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery

The condition affects almost exclusively women and manifests itself in a chronic and progressive increase in subcutaneous fatty tissue. Characteristically, this is limited to the legs and arms; the feet and hands are not affected.

The increase and enlargement of fat cells is resistant to diet. Affected patients suffer from increased pressure pain, and in most cases there is also spontaneous pain.

The cause of lipoedema is unknown. However, it is assumed that female hormones are responsible, as the symptoms often first appear or intensify during periods of hormonal change such as puberty, pregnancy or the menopause. In addition, more than half of all cases are due to a genetic predisposition.
